Isabelle Pateer (°1980 NL) Master in Visual Arts, Photography St Lukas Brussels (BE, 2003). Works and lives in The Netherlands and Belgium.
Personal long term projects
Since 2007 I am focussing increasingly on long- term personal projects operating in a cross-over area between documentary and autonomous photography. I expresses myself in series which base their subject matter on topics close to myself, but which have a wider meaning by addressing a more universal tendency in which I motivate the viewer to search for a personal relation and interpretation. In doing so I am aiming for a subtle form of universal social criticism.
My latest series “Unsettled” (one of my first long term projects) was awarded, published and exhibited (Inter)nationally since 2008 and received a project grant from the Dutch ‘Anna Cornelis’ foundation. I am preparing a book publication, scheduled for 2012.
Commissions
Since 2003 I am working as a freelance photographer specialised in documentary and location portraiture. Editorial assignments are realised for various magazines, companies and organizations such as WWF, Starbucks, Elle, Adecco, Deloitte, DHL, Nespresso, Style in Progress, Belgacom, Commerzbank, De Standaard, Foodservice Network Europe, Handicap International, Caritas International, Luminus, Bo Concept, Johnson & Johnson and others.
Technical information
For personal projects as ‘Unsettled’ I am working with Mamiya 7 on medium film format, using natural light sometimes combined with Lumedine portable flash light. They are presented as framed digital C-prints, 80 x 100 cm. Commissions are generally shot with a digital SLR camera, Nikon D3, using natural light in combination with Nikon speedlights or Bowens studio flashes (depending on the job). |
